Facebook Fan Pages in Google Results

With the news that Google now includes Facebook Fan Page updates in it’s Real Time Search results its never been a better time for businesses to establish a Facebook presence. Trying to educate clients on the benefits of having a Facebook Fan Page has sometimes been an uphill struggle. Some businesses still believe that Facebook is for teenagers and students. When we tell clients that in 2009 the fastest growing segment on Facebook was the 35 – 54 age group it does seem to get their interest.

Doing business on the web is no longer about having one web presence, it’s no longer enough to just get eyeballs to your site with little or no interaction. To do business on the web, be competitive and get your message out to as many people as possible you need to have several “homepages”, www.mybusiness.com – www.facebook.com/mybusiness – www.twitter.com/mybusiness. If there is one thing that is going to increase your site traffic, leads and sales it’s interaction. Obviously the more people that are interacting with your sites, leaving comments on your blog or replying to your Facebook updates the easier it will be to convert these interested users into customers in the future.

Although not as advanced as Google Analytics Facebook does provide you with some details about how your Fan Page is interacting with it’s audience.

The average person on Facebook has 120 friends and when you consider that almost everyone in your organization will certainly have a personal Facebook page with around 120 friends your Facebook business page can reach a lot of people in a very short space of time. Another excellent thing to remember about Facebook is that when someone receives one of your updates it’s because they have become a fan or a friend has forwarded it on to them, it’s word of mouth online and as such trusted.

Below are some Facebook Fan Pages that have helped their owners increase sales, brand awareness and site interactions.

Thanks for posting this.. great blog post. I think that the indexing of Fan Pages by Google will be the tipping point in getting a number of businesses that were on the fence to set up a fan page.

Now the challenge is to get the companies to not just set up a fan page but actually engage with their fans and try to build a fan base. “If you build it they shall come”? Not really. Companies must integrate the marketing of their facebook page into all of their marketing efforts (where appropriate).

    Thanks again..

    Hi Brian,

Thanks for your comment. You’re absolutely right about getting clients to take the next step and interact with their users. Hopefully businesses who use Social Media to extend their marketing reach will be encouraged as they see the ROI increasing with effort!

    Tony.
